In February 2005 The Elijah Challenge was hosted by missionaries Butch & Janet Berner in Zambia, Africa. Butch trained with the Christian & Missionary Alliance (CMA) and was sent out by them to Africa. After the Seminar, Butch himself began to teach The Elijah Challenge to other servants of God. The September 2007 newsletter from Butch and Janet contained the following testimony:
"I am a student of Light of Africa Bible College. When I started this school I see myself changing from this level to another level in knowledge and in deliverance and healing. The teacher of this school, Mr. Butch Berner, grounded me in the lessons Abundant Life and A Compendium of Pastoral Theology. When he organized Elijah Challenge Crusade I was taught great things such as great Healing Encounter whereby this time I am a completely changed person. At my church the preaching and teachings are different than before because their great winds of testimonies of healing and deliverance in the church testimonies of salvation. People are even flocking to my house seeking the hand of the Lord. There is great anointing moving in my ministry life. I visit patients and sick people in the hospital (General Hospital and Batoka Hospital). Patients get healed and receive salvation. There are signs and wonders taking place. My name has gone round the city of Livingstone, especially to the church and the compound where I stay. End, thank you."
